Bring variety to your home-cooked meals with Turai (Ridge Gourd), a ridged vegetable also known as angled luffa. The young fruit is used as a cooking vegetable, distinct from the mature, fibrous luffa used as a sponge. Choose from 250g, 500g or 1kg options for your next sabzi, dal or curry.
Turai (Ridge Gourd) works well in simple dishes with lentils, tomatoes and your preferred spices.
Fresh ridge gourd (Luffa acutangula). This listing is for the vegetable itself, not bottle gourd, dried luffa or a prepared meal. Lentils, oil, spices and other ingredients mentioned in serving suggestions are not included.
Wash Turai (Ridge Gourd), trim the ends and peel away the tough ridges and skin as needed. Cut into evenly sized pieces, removing any hard, mature seeds or fibrous sections.
For a simple sabzi, sauté your preferred spices in a little oil, add the prepared pieces and cook gently until tender. Add water sparingly as needed to prevent sticking. For dal, combine with lentils and simmer until both are cooked through. For a curry, cook the pieces in your chosen sauce until tender and serve with rice or flatbread.
Keep Turai (Ridge Gourd) refrigerated and protected from excess moisture. Wash just before preparation, refrigerate cut portions in a covered container and use promptly. Follow any storage instructions or dates supplied with your order.
