Ingredients
Daawat Green Basmati Extra Long Rice contains a single ingredient:
-
100% Extra Long Grain Basmati Rice – Sourced from the traditional basmati-growing belt of northern India (Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand), aged to reduce moisture and enhance cooking quality.
No additives, preservatives, or artificial ingredients. Naturally gluten-free. Please refer to the product packaging for the most up-to-date information.
Country of Origin
This product is grown and processed in India, in the traditional basmati-growing regions at the foothills of the Himalayas — including Punjab, Haryana, and Uttarakhand. This geographical region produces basmati rice with a unique combination of soil, climate, and water conditions that cannot be replicated elsewhere, giving authentic Indian basmati its characteristic aroma, length, and texture. Daawat sources its rice directly from these regions and processes it in state-of-the-art milling facilities.
How to Cook
Absorption Method (Recommended)
- Rinse 1 cup of Daawat Green Basmati Extra Long Rice under cold water 2–3 times until the water runs clear.
- Soak in cold water for 20–30 minutes — this helps the grains elongate fully during cooking.
- Drain thoroughly and transfer to a heavy-bottomed pot.
- Add 1.5 cups of fresh water per cup of rice, a pinch of salt, and a teaspoon of ghee or oil (optional).
- Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to the lowest setting.
- Cover with a tight-fitting lid and cook for 12–15 minutes without lifting the lid.
- Remove from heat and rest, covered, for 5 minutes.
- Fluff gently with a fork and serve.
For Biryani and Pilaf
- Rinse and soak the rice as above.
- Parboil in plenty of salted boiling water for 6–8 minutes until approximately 70% cooked.
- Drain immediately and use in your layered biryani or pilaf recipe, finishing the cooking in the dum (sealed pot) method.
Rice Cooker Method
- Rinse and soak the rice as above.
- Use a 1:1.5 rice-to-water ratio in your rice cooker.
- Select the white rice or basmati setting if available.
- Allow to steam for 5 minutes after the cooking cycle completes before opening the lid.
Tips for Best Results
- Always rinse to remove surface starch — this is the key to fluffy, separate grains.
- Soaking for 20–30 minutes maximises grain elongation.
- Avoid stirring during cooking to prevent breaking the delicate long grains.
- Use a heavy-bottomed pot with a tight lid to trap steam evenly.
