How to Use Punjabi Basmati Golden Rice

Basic Cooking Method (Absorption Method)

  1. Rinse: Wash 1 cup of rice in cold water 2-3 times until water runs clear to remove excess starch
  2. Soak: Soak rice in water for 20-30 minutes for best results (optional but recommended)
  3. Ratio: Use 1 cup rice to 1.5-2 cups water (adjust based on desired texture)
  4. Cook: Bring water to a boil, add rice and salt, reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 12-15 minutes
  5. Rest: Turn off heat and let rice rest covered for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork

For Biryani & Pulao

  1. Soak rice for 30 minutes and drain completely
  2. Parboil rice in plenty of salted boiling water for 6-7 minutes until 70% cooked
  3. Drain immediately and use in your biryani or pulao recipe
  4. The rice will finish cooking with the layered ingredients

For Fried Rice

  1. Cook rice using the basic method and spread on a tray to cool completely
  2. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results
  3. Cold rice separates better and creates perfect fried rice texture

Pro Tips for Best Results

  • Always rinse rice before cooking to remove surface starch and prevent clumping
  • Soaking helps grains elongate more during cooking
  • Use a heavy-bottomed pot with a tight-fitting lid for even cooking
  • Avoid stirring rice while cooking to prevent breaking the grains
  • Add a few drops of ghee or oil to the cooking water for extra fragrance and shine
