- Heat 2 tbsp ghee or oil in a large pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
- Add 1 cup mixed vegetables (carrots, beans, peas, potato) and sauté for 3–4 minutes.
- Add the cooked dal, cooked rice, and 2–3 teaspoons of MTR Bisibelebath Masala. Mix well.
- Add tamarind water (from a small lemon-sized ball of tamarind soaked in warm water) and salt to taste.
- Simmer on low heat for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture reaches a thick, porridge-like consistency.
- Finish with a tempering of ghee, cashews, and curry leaves. Serve hot.
Serving Suggestions
-
Traditional style – serve piping hot with a generous drizzle of ghee and papad on the side
-
With raita – a cooling cucumber or onion raita balances the spice beautifully
-
Tiffin box – Bisibelebath travels well and makes an excellent packed lunch
-
Topped with boondi – a popular Karnataka serving style for added crunch
Tip: The dish thickens as it cools – add a splash of warm water and reheat gently to restore the ideal consistency.
