How to Use
Classic South Indian Fish Curry (Meen Kuzhambu)
-
Prepare Tamarind Base: Soak a small ball of tamarind (about 20g) in 1.5 cups of warm water. Extract the juice and set aside.
-
Fry Aromatics: Heat 3 tablespoons of sesame oil or vegetable oil in a deep pan. Add mustard seeds and allow them to splutter. Add sliced shallots or onions and fry until golden. Add 2 chopped tomatoes and cook until soft.
-
Add Masala: Add 2–3 tablespoons of Sakthi Fish Curry Masala 200G and stir well. Cook the masala in the oil for 2–3 minutes until fragrant.
-
Add Tamarind Water: Pour in the tamarind water, add salt to taste, and bring to a boil. Simmer for 8–10 minutes until the gravy thickens slightly.
-
Add Fish: Gently add cleaned fish pieces (500g) to the simmering curry. Cook on low heat for 8–10 minutes until the fish is cooked through. Do not stir vigorously to keep the fish intact.
-
Serve: Garnish with fresh curry leaves and serve hot with steamed rice, idli, or dosa.
Other Uses
-
Coconut Fish Curry: Replace tamarind water with coconut milk for a milder, creamier Kerala-style fish curry.
-
Prawn Curry: Use the same method with cleaned prawns for a quick, bold prawn masala curry.
-
Fish Gravy for Rice: Make a thicker, drier version by reducing the liquid — perfect as a side dish with plain rice and papad.
-
Spiced Fish Soup: Use a teaspoon in a light fish broth with vegetables for a warming, aromatic seafood soup.
